In this design, I primarily explore the concept of architectural hierarchy. I wanted to examine the spatial experience when the hierarchy of architectural elements is inverted and displaced. By elevating the wall to a higher hierarchical level, I shifted its role from merely dividing interior rooms to segmenting the building itself, attempting to create an entirely new spatial perception.

I began conducting street observations to identify architectural elements that break away from traditional hierarchies, using this as a departure point for my design process.

Located at Kaohsiung Port, the site for this program is an Alumni Pavilion. In this design, I elevate the wall to a higher hierarchical level, utilizing an X-shape to initially intercept the path of visitors. This forces the pedestrian flow through the intersecting points. Ultimately, as they pass these points, a circular geometry cuts through the plan, dramatically revealing the expanse of the open sea.

In section, I introduce a suspended truss element that pierces through the walls, demonstrating another beyond layer. Furthermore, the roof facing the sea is transformed into a terraced grand staircase, opening up the building more generously to the vast ocean.
